Casablanca Tile Kit

I knew before I arrived in Morocco in February that I would love the zellige - the ceramic tiles - used to such incredible effect in many buildings both grand and humble.

Using the wooden block laser cut from my original drawing, I printed the design on natural linen and embroidered two samples with blues and greens and purples. One is now a pocket destined for a tote bag and I am planning a cushion featuring the other as a central motif.

There’s everything you need in the kit: printed linen (approx 19 x 19cm), soft washed British calico as a backing, 9 metres of stranded embroidery cottons, a needle, written notes and stitching guide. Feel free to go your own way, however. No rules!
