Pincushions sashiko-style
Japanese cotton handstitched sashiko style pincushions, plumply filled with pure wool neps and secured in indigo-dyed wooden eggcups. Each one is unique.
And model G is a modern take on kintsugi - the Japanese practice of honouring a damaged item by repairing it and filling any cracks with lacquer dusted with powdered gold. The eggcup split while drying out after its indigo dyeing. I’ve sealed the crack and given it a ‘gold’ finish!
The pincushions are 5.5cm high from the wooden base to the top of the plump little dome, and approx 4.5cm in diameter.
