Inspired by India! Each one of these stitch kits is different but all contain the ingredients to embroider a mobile phone or spectacles case in uniquely Indian block print fabrics.

When I was in Rajasthan in January 2020 I was captivated by much of the work of The Stitching Project. When I saw this particular wood block which had been cut to their own design, I knew it would make for a fun stitch project. The grid is printed in black on handwoven cotton. I am delighted to take advantage of their talents and to support this social enterprise which is doing so much good in rural India.

I've designed this to be as easy as possible. There are guidelines but no rules. Fill the grid with any stitches you like. The images on the back of the pack are suggestions only. Use the three shades of embroidery cotton, add your own threads to the mix or even leave it unstitched.

Line the case with the colourful cotton (or save it for a different project and use another fabric inside instead). You may select a kit with a block print design, or a subtle stripe. They are all cotton sourced in Gujarat but the stripes are hand spun and hand woven khadi which is even more special, to my mind!

The kit contains:

grid pattern block print cotton

cotton calico interlining

block printed or khadi striped cotton lining

three skeins of embroidery thread and a needle (shades may vary but will all be designed to complement the coloured block print fabric)

full sized template to cut out

instructions to make a glasses or mobile phone case
