Stravaiging

Messy, unfocused, curiously stressful.

WARNING - Stream of consciousness ahead.

evening light

I know where January went. It evaporated in fog.

I had plans.

Plans to be calm and restful, to gently stitch some of the multiple new samples I've wanted to make.

Plans to take more 'me' time and read, cook, knit, sew, watch films, walk, dream, play.

And I did bits of most of those, and some workroom reshuffling, but it was broken and disjointed the way that real life is. There were headaches and coughs, freezing weather (not unreasonably) and broken plumbing, poor sleep, vehicle issues, excessive sugar consumption, nebulous worries and guilt.

Not the smooth, picture perfect, grown-up, graceful, hassle-free recuperative hibernating month I'd envisaged.

Big deal. First world problems. I was and am sheltered and warm and overfed. I live in a quiet and currently safe part of the country where it is possible to hide in a bubble and block out the appalling cruelty and inequality of the real world for hours at a time. I am truly thankful every day for such a privilege.

a pile of unread books

a half knitted sweater

Get a grip, Tart, and focus on February.

The (non-work) positives to see me through the rest of winter include:

  • exploring new printing methods at Print Club, run by Emma of @weebluepress
  • making myself a simple bag using beautiful Japanese fabrics
  • reading real books that I hold in my hand (I can't knit or stitch and read so it's a treat)
  • having a few more coffee & cake outings with Hugh when he has odd midweek days off
  • actually finishing the big sweater I started knitting in April and then put aside for nine months
  • skipping for charity - it will be good for me....

I want (need) to keep these separate from Tart work. I am too good at blurring the boundaries and must try to instill a cut-off point in the evening after which I don't go back into my workroom or check my emails or 'just order x, y, or z while I remember'.

So, now that I have offloaded all that on to you, gentle reader, I shall just check the pan on the hob, pop a load of washing in and then clear a space on the worktable to start cutting fabric for new packs...x

My January/ Feb have been so like this. I was going to hit the ground running & achieve 😂 What I've realised is that my planning and not achieving when "Life hits in" creates a lot of stress. So, for March I still have plans but there are less of them. January with it lack of day light is saying hibernation and I need to listen more to this & my own energy levels. Spring is on her way.

Same happens to me,lots of plans, then another month gone, what's happened?Reality, what's in my head and heart don't always correspond with what's happening every day.Little bits get done, not as much I hoped or wanted,it's the way it is,but guess what,I will never stop planning and hoping, you must not too.

🧵🪡
Stitching at the kitchen table tonight.
Small project, wonky stitches, no rules.
Finally finished the simplest shawl(ette) and it’s off for a wee bath. May show it off when it’s blocked🤗
Just before the heavens opened on us.
Again!
Morning walks with Bruce🐾
🤗🧵❤️
New bundles in the shop!
Lots of blues, lots of birds - bit of a theme…
Each bundle is a one-off mix of fabrics, threads and finished items - often sample pieces I’ve made - and always a little extra tucked in the box too😘
🌿
Wednesday windowsill - garden gleanings and my own wee stash of hand dyed threads from favourite dyers🧵🤗🧵
☀️
A coffee break with slow knitting.
My new mug from recent travels perfectly captures west coast beach colours on a sunny day🤗
🐾
Sunday morning chillin’
Back from a mini trip to Oban, Mull and Iona where the air was fresh, and the skies clear (most days).
Walked along shorelines and past fields full of wildflowers, watched sunsets across calm waters, took four ferries, tested cake assiduously, and acquired a little yarn.

Most importantly I made great connections for future @rowantreetravel tours🤗
