pincushions and pocket in red and blue boro style stitching

Boro Stitch-Up or Slow Stitching on Indigo

August 25, 2022, 2:00pm – 4:30pm

Feel free to experiment with contemporary hand stitching and lots of fabrics from round the world as you try out boro-style stitching.

You can choose to make a square panel to use as a pocket, or a pillow-shaped or pyramid style pincushion.

No prior experience required. Suitable for anyone who can safely use a needle. I will give you a brief history of Boro, bring contemporary examples, guide you and demonstrate stitches in this gentle workshop

OR...

stitched birds block print

Choose from a bold birds-on-a-wire design or a stylised flower stem pattern block printed with indigo, and stitch up a storm!

Block print fabrics have a unique charm. Hand carved blocks, applied to hand dyed fabric with positioning done by eye.

A larger piece of fabric allows you to make a start on a bigger project, or to make multiple little ones. There is no expectation that you will complete your stitching in the workshop – quite the opposite, this can take as long as you like. I am there to guide you, show examples, demonstrate stitches, support, cheerlead, encourage a bit of wildness in your approach!

two block prints

This mixed workshop takes place at The Granary in Berwick-upon-Tweed. It forms part of the Youth Hostel building and has an excellent café on site.

You can select your project on the day.

All materials are supplied, including pincushion stuffing and lavender so you can make them sweet-smelling too.

Bring your own needles, threads, scissors if you like.

Full joining guidance will be emailed to you and I have a blog post extolling the many attractions of this ancient border town.

Couldn’t resist these madder dyed skeins at @isleofskyenaturaldyeco last week.

The indigo over dyeing has produced such a pleasing slate shade.
I even know what I am going to knit with them - just not when🤭
